Urban life presents particular challenges. When it comes to driving, it's an environment where motorists increasingly appreciate the robust, high-riding qualities of an SUV, but on a scale tailored to suit urban streets and with a genuine emphasis on environmental performance. At the same time, drivers want a vehicle that's distinctive and stylish, and which has all the flexibility they need for an active lifestyle. These are exactly the qualities Toyota has instilled in the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross. The new Toyota Yaris Cross has been designed and developed for Europe, specifically to meet the requirements and preferences of the region's B-SUV market. It will be made in Europe too, at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), alongside the new generation Yaris hatchback, from 2021.
We may not have been big fans of the Prius before, but we are now. There’s lots to admire in the engineering and technology, if not the look of the car. And it’s hard not to be swayed by the numbers – it’s not cheap to buy, but it will be cheap to run. It’s comfortable, refined and easy to live with – and more than just a cabbies’ favourite now.
The Toyota RAV4 is known for being reliable, spacious, practical, but also a little dull. Toyota has given it a refresh with a new look up front, some tweaked lights at the rear and a couple of updates to the engines and trim levels. You can get the RAV4 with a 2.0-litre D-4D diesel engine, a 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 2.5-litre V6 petrol mated to an electric motor - the RAV4 Hybrid. In this review we're testing the RAV4 2.0 D-4D with a six-sped manual gearbox to see if the changes make it competitive with the latest raft of family SUVs.
The DS has detached itself from Citroen, and the DS 5 is its most luxurious flagship model. There's not a Citroen badge in sight thanks to the new DS family grille, while there's a choice of petrol and diesel engines, as well as a four-wheel drive hybrid model available. The DS 5 occupies a unique niche of its own, aiming to steal sales from traditional family hatchbacks like the Ford Mondeo and VW Passat, while offering the premium feel of more established compact executive cars like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. All of this comes wrapped up in a stylish, high-riding package with a distinctive and surprisingly spacious interior.
The Fiat 500's retro looks have ensured the car has found thousands of homes in the UK, and now Fiat has updated the popular city car. It's got slightly tweaked styling inside and out, more choices of colour and trim and the same range of petrol and diesel engines as before. As always, there's plenty of scope for personalisation - so watch our video to see if it's any good!
