Amsterdam residents enjoyed the city's frozen canals over the weekend, even ice skating on their surface for the first time in years. The 'Beast from the East,' a massive cold front originating from Siberia that brought blizzards and freezing temperatures to much of Europe, had a silver lining. The subzero temperatures froze parts of Amsterdam's iconic Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht canals hard enough to support ice skaters.
San Sebastian’s Ondarreta beach in Spain was covered in snow, as the cold snap continues to spread throughout Europe. Retired professional cyclist Pedro Ruiz Cabestany could be spotted swapping his bike for skis on the typically moderate Bay of Biscay. Something of a media personality in his home country, Ruiz Cabestany was also a cross-country skier in his youth, before eventually dropping the sport to pursue cycling.
Although medical marijuana is legal in Germany, German regulations on growing cannabis are extremely stringent. Christoph Rossner, the managing director of a cannabis growing and research operation called Bunker Pflanzenextrakte UG, found a high security facility for his operation that complied with German law and also matched his budget - a former NATO bunker designed to protect top military commanders in the event of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union.
