Job Growth Slows As Unemployment Hits Eight Year Low

Description

The U.S. added less jobs than expected in January but the increase in wages and dip in unemployment show that economy is still improving. According to the Labor Department, the economy added 151,000 jobs in January, less than the expected 190,000. The manufacturing sector added the most jobs since 2013. The unemployment rate dropped to 4.9 percent, the lowest it has been since February 2008. However, the labor participation rate, the rate at which eligible workers are actively seeking employment, was at a near four decade low of 62.7 percent. Additionally, employers gave more hours to their workers in January.
