The first known case of Zika virus transmission in the U.S. was reported in Texas
The World Health Organization says they are concerned after a report that the Zika virus has been sexually transmitted in the United States. Jillian Kitchener reports.
Local health officials in Texas are calling the first known Zika infection to occur in the U.S. a "game changer," and suspect it was contracted through sex rather than a mosquito bite. Rough Cut (no reporter narration)
Four people returning from travel abroad have tested positive in New York state for the Zika virus, the mosquito-borne virus linked to birth defects in Latin America, while researchers plan to deploy a modified male mosquito that could render the females infertile. Mana Rabiee reports.
The Health Minister for Uganda announces that "all transmission chains have been fully interrupted and (I) take this opportunity to declare that the outbreak is over". This comes after the two epicentre towns, Mubende and Kassanda, were locked down to stop the spread of the disease. SOUNDBITE
