On January, 6th, the far-right personality known as 'Baked Alaska' live-streamed the Capitol riots. The FBI used his feed on the DLive platform to nab multiple rioters and has asked members of the public to watch the footage to help them identify others. With the help of the public, more than 125 arrests have been made. And now, 'Baked Alaska' himself has been arrested, too. Newser reports Tim Gionet, as he's legally known, was nabbed by the FBI in Houston on Saturday. During the siege, he could be heard encouraging other protesters not to leave, cursing and exclaiming “We are in the Capitol Building, 1776 will commence again."
The Presidential votes are still being counted. The vote from Alaska is in and president Donald Trump handily defeats Joe Biden, 64% to 32%. Alaska has voted for a Republican president in every election since 1968. There are two down-ballot races in Alaska this election: one in the House, one in the Senate. Business Insider reports that all three members of Alaska's congressional delegation are Republican.
Washington Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee has won his reelection bid against Republican challenger Loren Culp,. According to Business Insider, Governor Inslee won the contest with 59.74% of the vote. Inslee served as a US congressman before becoming governor in 2013. He dropped out of the presidential race last summer and started his reelection campaign for governor. Throughout his political career, Inslee's top priorities have been climate change and education. Inslee campaigned heavily on combating climate change during his brief 2020 presidential run.
Sarah McBride made history on Tuesday night. After winning a seat in Delaware's state Senate, McBride has become the highest-ranking openly trans official in America. According to Business Insider, the 30-year-old Democrat won the seat over Republican opponent, Steve Washington. McBride said: “I hope tonight shows an LGBTQ kid that our democracy is big enough for them, too." McBride rose to prominence in 2016 when she became the first openly trans person to speak at a national political convention. That year McBride addressed the DNC by saying: “My name is Sarah McBride, and I am a proud transgender American".
