Conservative attorney L. Lin Wood seemed to suggest on Friday that Georgia's Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler should be arrested. Wood asserts that the pair engaged in a scheme to perpetuate widespread voter fraud by using a Dominion Voting Systems algorithm. Business Insider reports the staunch Trump ally made the remarks ahead of the state's critical runoff race. In a tweet on Friday, Wood also urged Republicans to 'break' the election in the state by refusing to vote. The fraud will be so obvious, SCOTUS can then invalidate the presidential election. The White House is desperate to announce the authorization of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine. Mark Meadows has reportedly pressured FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn to announce the emergency authorization by the end of the day on Friday. Citing a report in the Washington Post, Business Insider reports that Meadows gave Hahn an ultimatum. Hahn either moves up the announcement or submit his resignation. This comes after President Donald Trump went after the agency on Twitter earlier in the morning, calling it "a big, old, slow turtle." Hahn denied the Post's report shortly after it was published, calling it "untrue." The White House declined to comment.
On Wednesday, former astronaut Mark Kelly will be sworn in as a US senator for Arizona. According to CNN, Kelly defeated Republican Sen. Martha McSally in a special election by more than 78,000 votes. He is married to former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot and nearly killed in 2011 and is now a leader in the movement against gun violence. Kelly campaigned on improving gun safety laws, improving services for veterans, and quality healthcare for Arizonians. In 2013, he and Giffords co-founded Giffords, an organization to prevent gun violence.
McConnell backed Treasury's Mnuchin in his extraordinary clash with the Federal Reserve. Both want Congress to reallocate unspent stimulus funds to support small businesses. "American workers should not lose their jobs needlessly when a second round of the job-saving Paycheck Protection Program for the hardest-hit small businesses would make a huge difference." Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement on Friday afternoon. His supporting Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's call is not surprising. The call is for Congress to repurpose unspent stimulus money, reports Business Insider. It also backs the Trump administration in its extraordinary clash against the Federal Reserve.
Republican electoral victories Tuesday cast doubt over whether the US would enact any significant measures to curb planet-heating emissions in the near-term. States were still tallying results on Wednesday as the Trump administration officially withdrew from the Paris climate agreement. According to HuffPost, that makes the US the only country to exit the nonbinding global pact to cut climate-changing carbon emissions. In Montana and Texas, climate-change-denying candidates cruised to victory. While many Senate and House races remain undecided, two sunny spots for climate advocates and environmentalists were in Arizona and in Colorado. Democrat Mark Kelly handily beat Arizona Republican Sen. Martha McSally. Kelly made tackling climate change a key part of his platform. And in Colorado, former governor and 2020 presidential contender John Hickenlooper ousted Republican Sen. Cory Gardner. Claiming to be a 'national leader' on climate, Gardner consistently peddles the conspiracy theory that environmentalists are plotting to control the economy.
