Firefighters battling a vast wildfire on Tenerife are facing another very difficult night after severe weather conditions worsened the blaze, displacing over 12,000 people on the Spanish holiday island, regional officials said. IMAGES
Images of the wildfire that broke out late Tuesday in a mountainous area in the north of Tenerife Island has so far destroyed 5,000 hectares (more than 12,300 acres) of land and forced 4,500 people to flee. The renewed heat and wind threatened recent progress in bringing the blaze under control, local authorities said. Friday's firefighting efforts "progressed well, although the fire is still out of control", Canary Islands regional president Fernando Clavijo told reporters in a late-night briefing. IMAGES
