Two continents, two race series, two podiums: BMW M Motorsport can look back on a successful weekend with the new BMW M8 GTE. António Félix da Costa (POR) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) finished second for BMW Team MTEK in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Fuji (JPN) driving the #82 BMW M8 GTE in the LM GTE Pro class. At the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Road Atlanta (USA), BMW Team RLL’s John Edwards (USA), Jesse Krohn (FIN) and Chaz Mostert (AUS) came third in the GTLM category and were also celebrating on the podium.
"BMW Team RLL will look to close the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the inaugural season for the BMW M8 GTE with a third consecutive GTLM class victory, this time at the 21st annual Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta (USA). Following a win and double-podium finish at Virginia International Raceway (USA) in August and a second victory at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (USA) last month the team is fully prepared for Petit Le Mans – an event they won last year in the final race for the BMW M6 GTLM. Bill Auberlen (USA) rejoins Alexander Sims (GBR) and Connor De Phillippi (USA) in the #25 BMW M8 GTE for the fourth time this season. Chaz Mostert (AUS) will co-drive with John Edwards (USA) and Jesse Krohn (FIN) in the #24 BMW M8 GTE. This weekend will also see BMW Team RLL complete its 10th season of racing with BMW."

For the fifth race weekend of the 2018 DTM season, BMW M Motorsport heads to the North Sea where races nine and ten will be held at Zandvoort (NED). The “Circuit Park” there is an iconic track in the dunes – demanding and fast in equal measure. BMW drivers have brought home a total of four wins there since 2012 and are eager to end the first half of the 2018 season with a strong performance. BMW Team RMG’s Marco Wittmann (GER) is currently the best-placed BMW driver in the overall standings. With 92 points to his name, he is in third place. His team-mate Timo Glock (GER) has clocked up the same number of points, but is in fourth place due to a lower number of wins (Wittmann two wins, Glock one win). Wittmann in particular is full of confidence heading to the North Sea coast. He recently finished on the podium three times in a row, which saw him consistently make up ground on the leaders in the driver’s standings.
The 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship continues with back-to-back races at Watkins Glen International (USA) and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CAN). Last year, the two races resulted in two wins for BMW Team RLL – the first two of four victories for the BMW M6 GLTM racing programme. This year, the team is looking to repeat those results with the new BMW M8 GTE. During the first four races of the 2018 season, the BMW M8 GTE scored a second place finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring (USA) with the #25 car of Bill Auberlen (USA), Connor De Phillippi (USA) and Alexander Sims (GBR) after starting from De Phillippi’s first GTLM class pole. A second pole by Edwards in the #24 BMW M8 GTE and De Phillippi and Sims’ second place finish in the #25 BMW M8 GTE at the most recent race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (USA) in early May showed the programme’s continuing competitiveness.
