Fire ripped through the monkey house at Krefeld zoo in northwestern Germany on New Year's Eve killing dozens of animals, including orangutans, chimpanzees and marmosets, management said Wednesday. IMAGES
A cute and curious cotton-top tamarin monkey which bears an uncanny resemblance to the late German theoretical physicist Albert Einstein was welcomed to Roev Ruchei Zoo in Krasnoyarsk on October 26 and he's been winning hearts ever since. With around 6,000 cotton-top tamarins left worldwide, the species is critically endangered and one of the rarest primates on earth.
A Bengal tiger named Oscar broke away from his trainers and handlers and went on the loose in the Sicilian town of Monreale on Saturday, after escaping from a Swedish circus around 9 AM local time. Video courtesy of Palermo Today shows the moment that the tiger was cornered by armed Italian police. Local residents were ordered to barricade themselves in their homes after police raised the alarm, whilst special police forced the tiger into a trap in a private parking lot in front of a ceramic shop. Traffic police blocked highway 186 for several hours to ensure that no motorists would come upon the tiger by accident. Police worked direct with Oscar's trainers and handlers to bring him in. Circus staff pleaded with police not to sedate the animal because the drugs could cause severe damage to the trained tiger. In the end, his handlers managed to convince the renegade animal to willingly give up his new-found freedom. Oscar the white tiger was finally captured after two hours on the loose and was safely transported in a cage back to the circus.
Just when everyone thought Harry Potter had freed the world from his arch nemesis Voldemort, footage of a baby monkey bearing a striking resemblance to the Dark Lord was released by the Paignton Zoo Environmental Park in Devon on Tuesday. With a pasty skin color, bald head, thin nose, and deathly eyes, the little monkey was practically the reincarnation of ‘He Who Must not Be Named’.
This cute little guy is a baby squirrel monkey, and he's playing with his newly adopted mom, a common cat. The adult cat took in the baby squirrel monkey after the cute little critter was rejected by his parents at the Tyumen Zoo. Zoo director Tatiana Antropova decided to carry out an experiment and find another mother for the primate - she took him home and placed him next to her cat to ensure the little monkey stayed warm.
