On Sept. 20 2017, Hurricane Maria ransacked the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. In its aftermath, the storm prompted a full-fledged humanitarian crisis. Damages from the storm exceeded $90 billion and a death toll of nearly 3,000 people. Today, officials in Puerto Rico are taking advantage of the blank slate left behind by the brutal and unforgiving act of nature.
