Convicted paedophile cardinal George Pell has an appeal against his child sex abuse charges rejected by an Australian court. Once the Vatican's third-ranking official, 78-year-old Pell was sentenced this year to six years in jail for sexually assaulting two 13-year-old choirboys at a Melbourne cathedral in the 1990s. 76-year-old Cardinal George Pell entered a plea of not guilty at Melbourne magistrates court on Wednesday in the first hearing of the case of multiple historical sexual abuse offences against him. Media, protesters and some supporters crowded outside the courthouse, with many waving different signs decrying sexual abuse allegedly committed by Catholic clergy. The magistrate ordered the prosecution serve a brief of evidence by September 8, 2017 and Pell to return ot the court for a committal mention on October 6.

German prosecutors have yet to charge Brueckner over Madeleine's disappearance, but in October 2022 he was charged with five separate counts of rape and child sex abuse allegedly committed in Portugal, where Madeleine disappeared, between 2000 and 2017.
