Delays May Occur To U.S. Energy Initiatives Due To Shutdown

Energy industry groups said Friday the partial government shutdown has increased the chances of delays in U.S. energy initiatives. The U.S. Department of Interior was expected to release its 2019 to 2024 offshore oil and gas drilling plan in early January. The Trump administration has made increasing areas available for offshore drilling part of its energy agenda to boost fossil fuel output. The Interior Department has been operating at reduced staffing levels due to the partial government shutdown since December 22. The National Ocean Industries Association said members of her group should not be badly affected if the final drilling plan is released by summer. The Department of Energy and Federal Energy Regulatory Committee are both already funded for 2019.
