House Democrats declined President Trump's offer on Tuesday to meet up in hopes of putting an end to the government shutdown while simultaneously obtaining the funds Trump desires for the border wall. Instead, the White House announced that Tuesday’s meeting will consist of eight Republicans and no Democrats. Politico reports White House aides reached out to many centrist Democratic lawmakers in order to divide the caucus and consequently go around House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who have been heavily opposing Trump’s demand for over $5 billion for a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says, "It’s time for the Democrats to come to the table and make a deal.”
