Nigeria's electoral watchdog on Saturday postponed presidential and parliamentary elections for one week, just hours before polls were due to open. SOUNDBITES
Nigerians head to the polls in a tense election that's been marked with technical problems and some violence in parts of the country. Nathan Frandino reports.
Following the emergency summit held in the Nigerian Capital Abuja, the West African ECOWAS bloc President Omar Touray says members have decided "to order the deployment of the ECOWAS standby force to restore constitutional order in Niger". SOUNDBITE
Atiku Abubakar, the leader of the People's Democratic Party and Nigerian presidential candidate speaks to the press following the announcement by INEC (Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission) confirming his rival Bola Tinubu as the winner of the elections. "I have come to the conclusion that the processes and outcome of the presidential and national assembly elections of last Saturday was grossly flawed" he says to applause amongst those gathered. The leader of the Nigeria's Labour Party, and presidential candidate in the February 2023 elections, Peter Obi, speaks to the press for the first time since the announcement by INEC (Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission) confirming his rival Bola Tinubu as the winner of the elections. He says he "will explore all legal and peaceful option to reclaim our mandates" adding that he believes the Labour Party "won the election". SOUNDBITE
