Peugeot 508 - Crash Tests 2018

Description

Euro NCAP performs a series of crash tests on each model tested: - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid barrier - an offset frontal impact test, 40% of the width of the car is striking a deformable barrier - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door. The passenger compartment of the 508 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the kneesand femurs of the driver and passenger. Peugeot showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the chest was marginal for the driver and adequate for the rear passenger, and protection of all other critical body areas was good. In both the side barrier impact and the more severe side pole test, maximum points were scored, with good protection of all critical body areas. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds, typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries are caused.

  • Peugeot Rifter - Crash Tests 2018

Euro NCAP releases the safety rating of seven new cars today. The passenger compartment of the Rifter remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings showed good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Peugeot showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver dummy was marginal for the chest and neck and good for other critical body areas. Protection of the rear passenger was good or adequate. In the side barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good and the Rifter scored maximum points. Even in the more severe side pole impact, protection of the chest was adequate and that of other critical body areas was good. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds, typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries are caused.

The sixth generation Opel/Vauxhall Astra and third generation Peugeot 308 are both based on the Stellantis EMP2 platform and, unsurprisingly, score very similarly across all four areas of assessment. Both the offset test and the full-width crash test highlighted marginal chest injury protection for average male and small female drivers, and neither car was equipped with a centre airbag for far-side crash protection, a countermeasure which is increasingly common on modern cars. Both cars offer plenty of crash avoidance technology but do not include some of the latest advancements introduced in the market. The cars’ four-star ratings apply also to their PHEV variants.
