Senate Tells Trump Not To Withdraw Troops From Syria

Description

The Republican-led Senate publicly disagreed with President Donald Trump Thursday when it decided to move forward on an amendment from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that cautioned against the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria and Afghanistan. Politico reports Republicans and Democrats voted 68-23 in favor of forwarding the amendment, attached to a broader Middle East legislative package. Prior to the vote Thursday, McConnell said, "There is no poison pill. Just an opportunity for senators to go on the record about what our country should be doing in Syria and Afghanistan."
