    Elected Eurpoean Commission President Ursula von de Leyen spoke out after being elected. Leyen said she would work in “a constructive way” with any new British prime minister. According to Reuters, the next head of the European Union’s executive was narrowly confirmed. Leyen was asked who she would rather see as the new British leader. She declined to comment whether she preferred Boris Johnson or foreign minister Jeremy Hunt.

    French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Boris Johnson’s win as Britain’s next prime minister. Future head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen also congratulated Johnson. She said: “I’m looking forward to having a good working relationship with him.” Macron said he also looks forward to working with Johnson over European issues, such as Brexit negotiations. But also wants to work on international security issues, such as the problems with Iran.
