Les championnats de France de ski nordique se sont ouverts ce vendredi à Prémanon dans le Jura. Un mois après les Jeux Olympiques, la compétition est l'occasion de voir en vrai les médaillés olympiques de Pyeongchang.
La rapidité du nageur originaire de Toulouse, spécialiste des épreuves quatre nage, brasse et papillon, époustoufle de nombreux spectateurs lors de ces JO. Quel est son secret ? Léon Marchand gagne du temps sur ses concurrents sous l’eau. « Léon Marchand utilise une technique subtile, appelée l’ondulation dauphin », explique le physicien Fabrizio Bucella, de l’université Libre de Bruxelles, le 31 juillet sur X. L’ondulation dauphin (« dolphin kick », en anglais) porte ce nom, car la technique rappelle tout simplement le mouvement de la nage du dauphin. « L’ondulation dauphin se fait sous l’eau, après le plongeon et les virages. Léon Marchand sort de l’eau en dernier. Il maximalise donc le temps passé sous l’eau. Or, sous l’eau, la résistance diminue de 20 %, on nage plus vite », poursuit le scientifique.
