Porsche presented its first fully-electric sports car to the public today with a spectacular world premiere held simultaneously on three continents. ""The Taycan links our heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of our brand - a brand that has fascinated and thrilled people the world over for more than 70 years,"" said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, who opened the world premiere in Berlin: ""This day marks the start of a new era.""The four-door sports saloon is a unique package, offering typical Porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability. At the same time, highly advanced production methods and the features of the Porsche Taycan are setting new standards in the fields of sustainability and digitalisation. ""We promised a true Porsche for the age of electromobility - a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people all over the world, just like its legendary predecessors have done. Now we are delivering on this promise,"" emphasises Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board of Porsche AG - Research and Development.The first models in the new series are the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range. Less powerful variants of these all-wheel drive vehicles will follow this year. The first derivative to be added will be the Taycan Cross Turismo at the end of next year. By 2022, Porsche will have invested more than six billion euros in electromobility.
It was in September 2019 that the new electric sports car from Porsche celebrated its high-profile premiere on three continents simultaneously. Next, the company presented the third version of the sports saloon with the Porsche Taycan 4S. This new model is available with two battery sizes and delivers with the Performance battery up to 390 kW (530 PS) or with the Performance battery Plus up to 420 kW (571 PS). Following the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo, the Porsche Taycan 4S is therefore the new entry-level model in the series. A single-deck Performance battery with a total capacity of 79.2 kWh comes as standard. The two-deck Performance battery Plus familiar from the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo is optionally available. The total capacity here is 93.4 kWh.The power output and range therefore vary correspondingly: with the Performance battery, the Taycan 4S generates up to 390 kW (530 PS) overboost power output. Equipped with the Performance battery Plus, it delivers up to 420 kW (571 PS). In both variants, the Porsche Taycan 4S accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. The top speed is also 250 km/h in both cases. The range is up to 407 kilometres with the Performance battery and up to 463 kilometres with the Performance battery Plus (in accordance with WLTP in each case) - the highest value of the current Taycan range. The maximum charging capacity (peak) is 225 kW (Performance battery) or 270 kW (Performance battery Plus).
Breathtaking acceleration values, typical sports car pulling power and superior, permanently available power - the new 4S also has these strengths of the Taycan. The permanently excited synchronous machine on the rear axle, with an active length of 130 millimeters, is exactly 80 millimeters shorter than the corresponding drive component of the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. With two permanently excited synchronous machines on the front and rear axles, i.e. all-wheel drive, as well as a two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, the 4S has the main technical highlights of its model brothers in terms of drive architecture. The same applies to the intelligent charge management and the exemplary aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of 0.22 or more, it makes a decisive contribution to low energy consumption and thus a long range.With its clear, purist design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new age. At the same time, it unmistakably carries the Porsche design DNA. From the front it looks particularly wide and flat, with strongly arched fenders. The silhouette is determined by the sporty, sloping roof line. The side section with its strong, sculptural shape is also characteristic. The slim cabin, the retracted D-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the fenders lead to a strong, brand-typical emphasis on the rear. There are also innovative elements such as the Porsche logo in glass look, which is integrated into the strip of lights at the rear.
With its clear, puristic design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. From the front, it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roof line sloping downward to the rear. The highly sculpted side sections are also characteristic. The sleek cabin, the drawn-in rear C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the wings result in a sharply emphasised rear, typical of the brand. There are also innovative elements such as the glass-effect Porsche logo, which has been integrated into the light bar at the rear.Distinguishing features of the Porsche Taycan 4S compared with the Turbo and Turbo S include the aerodynamically optimised 19-inch Taycan S Aero wheels and the red-painted brake callipers. The front apron with new geometry, side sills and rear diffuser in black ensure further visual differentiation. LED headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) are equipped as standard.
The Taycan Sport Turismo is the latest body variant of the innovative electric sports car from Porsche. The model family now boasts a third design alongside the sports saloon and Cross Turismo. The new derivative is aimed at people who want to combine the everyday usability of the Taycan Cross Turismo with the on-road dynamics of the Taycan sports saloon. As the first member of the Taycan Sport Turismo family, the GTS will be launched at the end of February 2022, with further models following just three weeks later in mid-March. A panoramic roof with Sunshine Control is available as a new optional extra for the Taycan Sport Turismo. A special feature of this is electric glare protection.From a standstill, the Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and its top speed is 260 km/h. The model with the greatest range is the Taycan 4S Sport Turismo, which stretches to 498 kilometres based on WLTP figures. Being part of the latest Taycan generation, the all-wheel drive Sport Turismo models have a particularly efficient drive strategy. Thermal management and charging functions have also been improved. Both batteries can be charged from five to 80 per cent in 22 minutes and 30 seconds. This also means that only five minutes' charging is needed to create a further 100 km of range.
Porsche has given the Taycan a particularly extensive update. The new versions have more power, more range, accelerate quicker and charge faster with greater stability. Style Porsche has also sharpened the design and more strongly differentiated the Turbo models. All Taycan versions feature an even more extensive standard equipment list and come with the latest generation of the Porsche Driver Experience with an improved display and control concept.All three body variants will feature the numerous modifications from the date of launch – the Taycan sports sedan, the versatile Taycan Cross Turismo, which is available with an off-road package, and the sporting-yet-practical Taycan Sport Turismo. In each case, four powertrain options are available, with rear- and all-wheel drive variants. The revised versions will arrive at Porsche Centres from the spring of 2024.All updated models accelerate much faster than their predecessors. Two examples from both ends of the portfolio: as sports sedans, the Taycan and Taycan Turbo S reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in just 4.8 and 2.4 seconds respectively. This makes them 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors.With the new push-to-pass function in the Sport Chrono package, a boost of up to 70 kW, depending on the model, can be called upon for 10 seconds at the touch of a button. The increased acceleration rates are generally the result of higher system output. For example, the base Taycan delivers 60 kW more than before. In the Taycan Turbo S, it’s an additional 140 kW with Launch Control. This increases the system output of the top model to 700 kW/952 PS.
