Rouen residents demand more tests over health risks after chemical plant fire

Residents of Rouen took to the streets again last night demanding the truth about a major fire two weeks ago at the Lubrizol chemical factory just outside the city. Authorities have launched an official inquiry into the fire, which also burnt the warehouses of another company nearby with alarm bells ringing over what products exactly were stocked there. Emerald Maxwell explains.

  • China Chemical Plant Blast Kills 62, Injures Hundreds

    Chinese state media reported Friday that an explosion at a pesticide plant in the eastern part of the country has killed 62 people. According to Reuters, 34 people were critically injured and 28 are missing--the latest casualties in a series of industrial accidents that has angered the public. The blast occurred in an industrial park in the city of Yancheng, in Jiangsu province. The fire was finally brought under control at 3 a.m. local time on Friday. Survivors were taken to 16 hospitals with 640 people being treated for injuries.
