The level of the River Seine exceeds four metres in some areas of Paris, following heavy rains throughout the weekend. According to the latest forecasts, the alert level remains yellow, meaning major damage is likely to be avoided although access to the river banks remains closed. IMAGES

In northern France's Pas-de-Calais department, two rivers -- the Aa and the Liane -- have been placed on red alert for flooding. In recent days, the region has seen flooding that has caused extensive damage with no decrease in water levels expected until Friday, according to Météo-France. IMAGES
