The Patrouille de France flies over the capital to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris, bringing five days of celebrations to a close in tricolor smoke. IMAGES
Gérard Larcher, Yaël Braun-Pivet, Anne Hidalgo and Patricia Miralles take part in the ceremony in tribute to Marshal Philippe Leclerc, as part of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. On 24 August 1944, the soldiers of the 2nd armoured division, commanded by General Leclerc, entered the capital through the Porte d'Italie. IMAGES
The French flag was raised under the Eiffel Tower during a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. On 25 August 1944, at midday, firefighters from the ‘Sarniguet commando’ went to the Eiffel Tower to take down the Nazi flag that had been flying there for four years and replace it with the tricolour.
