Protests as Algeria holds controversial presidential elections

Algiers, 12 dic (EFE/EPA).- (Camera: Mohamed Messara) Presidential elections in Algeria, which the opposition has billed as a farce, were marked on Thursday by popular protests, empty polling stations and extra security in Algiers. Riot police could be seen on almost every corner of the capital, especially along Rue Didouche Mourad, one of the main commercial thoroughfares by the early morning a gathering of around 50 protesters chanted slogans against the elections.
