With the five-star ratings across the board for the ID.5, Polo and Taigo, Volkswagen underlines its commitment to the highest safety standards and continues its series of successes: the ID.4 and compact ID.3 recently achieved the highest ratings in the Euro NCAP in April 2021 and October 2020 respectively. In 2019, the Golf and T-Cross also received top marks.
The facelifted VW Golf 8 earned five stars as well. The Golf 8 was first tested by Euro NCAP in 2019, but the model has recently been updated with the addition of a centre airbag, lap pretensioners, junction assist and a fatigue detection system, which delivered again five stars, this time against the latest test criteria.
The passenger compartment of the up! remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the kneesand femurs of the driver and passenger. VW showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes andto those sitting in different positions. Chest protection of both dummies was marginal. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of thechest was again marginal for both occupants, with other critical body areas well or adequately protected. In the side barrier impact, allcritical body areas were well protected and the up! scored maximum points in this test. In the more severe side pole test, protection of thechest was adequate and that of other body areas was good. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protectionagainst whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated marginal whiplashprotection. An autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is not available on the up!

In the side barrier impact, all critical body areas were wellprotected and the Sharan scored maximum points in this test. In the more severe side pole test, protection of the chest was adequate andthat of other body areas was good. However, the side door of the Sharan became detached during the test and the score was penalisedfor the risk of occupant ejection. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries inthe event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated marginal whiplash protection. The standard-fitautonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed adequately in tests of its functionality at the low speeds at which many whiplashinjuries occur.

A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The standard-fit 'Front Assist' autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds, typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries occur
