Interview Scott Keogh, CEO Volkswagen Group of America at L.A. Auto Show 2019

Description

Scott Keogh is apologetic about the Volkswagen diesel cheating scandal. But he wants everyone to know that the company has fundamentally changed its ways. The rank and file at Volkswagen “didn’t cause this madness,” said the chief executive of Volkswagen Group of America, “but we have a responsibility to the millions of Volkswagen customers who love this brand, to the dealers, to the employees to regain their trust.”The scandal, sparked by an investigation by California regulators in 2015, set the company reeling. Top VW executives have been fired, fined, accused of crimes and, in one case, sent to prison. Sales suffered, profits went poof, and VW scrambled to remake itself.

  • VW at the 2018 LA Auto Show - Scott Keogh, Volkswagen of America, President and CEO

Volkswagen will introduce an electric car in the U.S. in 2020, the brand's new U.S. CEO told reporters Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The electric car will be priced in the range of $30,000 to $40,000, VW's Scott Keogh said in a group interview. At that price range, the vehicle will compete with the similarly priced Tesla Model 3 and the Chevrolet Bolt, which are already available for sale. The Bolt starts at about $37,000, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company will begin selling $35,000 Model 3 base models in 2019.VW has revealed several concept electric vehicles under a new nameplate, I.D., over the last two years or so. Those models provided a preview of what could be next for the company.

  • Volkswagen ID. SPACE Vizzion Concept - Interview Scott Keogh, Volkswagen of America, President & CEO

The Volkswagen ID. SPACE VIZZION electric concept combines the aerodynamic design of a Gran Turismo with the spaciousness and versatility of an SUV. With an 82 kWH battery and an incredibly low drag coefficient of 0.24, the vehicle has a range of 590 kilometers on the WLTP cycle and a predicted range of up to 300 miles on the EPA cycle. The seventh member of the ID. concept family, the ID. SPACE VIZZION previews a potential production car for Europe and North America. The concept car is manufactured on Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB), as are all ID. family models. This creates an entirely new package as the electric drive components are extremely compact and the battery is integrated into the vehicle floor to save space, making it possible to alter a vehicle's overall architecture. The concept car is fitted with a rear-mounted, 275-horsepower motor, but a second motor could be fitted to give all-wheel-drive capability and a total output of 355 hp. The ID. SPACE VIZZION is 195.2 inches long, 60.2 inches high, and 74.7 inches wide.Since electric vehicles don't need a radiator or space for an engine, this creates new design freedom. In the case of the ID. SPACE VIZZION, the designers and engineers have taken advantage of this freedom to optimize the aerodynamics-in this case, to reduce the coefficient of drag (Cd) to 0.24-and thus increase the efficiency and range. Air flows under a horizontal panel between the headlights and over the extremely low hood, before being directed to the rear, where there is another horizontal panel over the tailgate that allows air to flow under it.

  • 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport - Scott Keogh - President & CEO, Volkswagen of America

Volkswagen of America, Inc. unveiled the all-new 2020 Atlas Cross Sport at the company's state-of-the-art factory in Chattanooga, TN. The five-seater midsize SUV features a dramatic, coupe-like design as well as advanced connectivity and driver-assistance systems. The Cross Sport is the first fruit of Volkswagen's strategy of doubling up in the biggest SUV segments, a plan that will be repeated in the compact SUV segment with a vehicle that will fit in the lineup beneath the Tiguan."Building off the success of the Atlas seven-seater midsize SUV, we see an opportunity for a five-seater model that offers even more style and almost as much interior space," said Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. "We look forward to entering this growing segment with the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, which offers outstanding Volkswagen technology, driver-assist features, style, and value."Overall, the Cross Sport is 2.8 inches shorter than the current Atlas, and is 2.3 inches lower. It is 78.3 inches wide and rides on the same 117.3-inch wheelbase, which is the reason for the vehicle's generous interior space. The Cross Sport has an outstanding 111.8 cubic feet of passenger space, with 40.3 cu ft of luggage space behind the second-row seats and 77.8 cu ft with the second row folded.Externally, the VW Atlas Cross Sport has distinctive styling that builds on the basics of the Atlas but takes it to a new level. At the front, the Cross Sport gets an upscale three-bar chrome grille and a distinctive new light signature that extends the width of the middle bar. An aggressive new front bumper and subtly sculpted hood complete the front end treatment that looks remarkably close to the stunning concept that was shown at the 2018 New York Auto Show.
