Suspected torturer arrives in Argentina for trial after French extradition

Buenos Aires, Dec 16 (EFE).- An Argentine ex-police officer Mario Sandoval arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday to stand trial over the disappearance of a student during the country’s dictatorship.Sandoval was allegedly one of the most notorious torturers of the Argentine military regime in the 1970s.He was extradited from France and is due to stand trial over the disappearance of student Hernán Abriata in 1976.Sandoval had lived in France since 1985, spent years working as an academic at the Sorbonne, and acquired French nationality.He was wanted for crimes against humanity, including torture, and suspected of links to the murder of hundreds of people.FOOTAGE OF ARRIVAL OF ARGENTINE EX-POLICE OFFICER MARIO SANDOVAL AT EZEIZA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON MONDAY IN BUENOS AIRES.
