UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visits the constituency of Uxbridge & South Ruislip with its newly elected MP Steve Tuckwell after the Conservative Party narrowly held on to the seat of former Prime Minsiter Boris Johnson by 495 votes. That result, driven by opposition to Labour mayor Sadiq Khan's expansion of a vehicle pollution tax to outer London, offered the embattled Sunak some relief, as elsewhere the Conservatives saw hefty majorities in two other seats blown away as scandals and high inflation took their toll. The leader of Britain's pro-EU Liberal Democrats, Jo Swinson, says early election results and exit polls, which indicate a big win for the ruling Conservative party, will bring "dread and dismay". Protesters in London try to block the removal of migrants from their temporary accommodation, as the UK government began detaining people before controversial deportation flights to Rwanda start. The protesters occupy the road in front of a bus believed to be waiting to take asylum seekers from a hotel in the Peckham area of the British capital to an accommodation barge moored off the south coast of England. A London Metropolitan Police statement said a number of people had been arrested. IMAGES
