Plug-in hybrid range expands to five models: latest-generation BMW eDrive technology now also offered for the BMW 5 Series Touring. BMW 530e Touring (fuel consumption, combined: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km [141.2 – 156.9 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 46 – 42 g/km), BMW 530e xDrive Touring (fuel consumption, combined: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km [117.7 – 128.4 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 54 – 50 g/km) and BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption, combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km [122.8 – 128.4 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 53 – 49 g/km) with six-cylinder in-line combustion engine available from autumn 2020. New BMW eDrive Zone function – standard for all plug-in hybrid models – automatically switches the car to all-electric mode when entering ‘green zones’.Introduction of new 48V mild hybrid technology for all four- and six-cylinder engines (country-specific availability); more rapid responses and enhanced efficiency thanks to 48V starter-generator; 8 kW/11 hp power spike to both lighten the combustion engine’s workload and boost its power.
Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 5 Series Touring, the epitome of driving pleasure, sporty elegance and modern functionality in the premium upper mid-range segment, is entering a new era. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is a sophisticated all-rounder for everyday driving and touring, offering stylish presence, superior sportiness, versatility and spacious comfort.Dynamically stretched proportions and generously designed surfaces characterise the exterior of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. The distinctive front end features a modern interpretation of the hallmark twin headlights and BMW grille. Two almost vertical LED elements serve as direction indicators and daytime running lights respectively. At the heart of the progressive, driver-oriented cockpit design is the BMW Curved Display. Its 12.3-inch Information Display and the Control Display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches form a fully digital display network. The modern premium ambience in the interior is further enhanced by the new sports seats fitted as standard, the steering wheel, which is now flatter at the bottom, and the optional BMW Interaction Bar.
The new BMW 3 series plug-in hybrid joins the ranks, promising a proper combination of efficiency and performance in the sports sedan segment. The core of the 3 series plug-in hybrid is obviously its powertrain. BMW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generates 184 horsepower (135 kW), with a single electric motor nestled in the eight-speed automatic transmission providing an extra 113 hp (83 kW). Combined, BMW lists total output at 252 hp (185 kW), but this new hybrid has an interesting feature called XtraBoost that works not unlike a shot of nitrous oxide. With the new BMW 3 series in Sport mode, mashing the accelerator adds an additional 40 hp (30kW) for a period of up to 10 seconds, giving the sedan a total output of 292 hp (215 kW)
The BMW 3-Series Sedan has epitomised the concept of sporty driving pleasure in the global premium midsize class for more than 40 years. Exuding dynamic design, agile handling, exceptional efficiency and innovative equipment features, it takes the signature characteristics of a BMW and turns the volume up several notches. The sedan represents not only the core of the BMW 3-Series range (of which over 15 million units have now been sold worldwide) but also the heartbeat of the BMW brand. When the first BMW 3-Series was launched in 1975, it simultaneously brought to life a new breed of car; the sports sedan concept underpinned the rise of the 3-Series to become BMW's most successful model - a status it retains to this day. Over the course of its six model generations to date, the BMW 3-Series has been ranked the world's biggest-selling premium car, led the way for high-performance powertrain and chassis technology and earned a reputation as a pioneer of technological innovations in the midsize segment. This latest edition of the car sees BMW building on the sporting tradition of the 3-Series, whose exploits in race competition have earned it so much extra kudos. The seventh generation of the sports sedan moves the game on once again in terms of driving dynamics, not to mention premium quality and innovation, in the midsize segment.
