Central, Eastern US More Than Toasty In Massive Heat Wave

A gargantuan heat wave sat itself right down over the central and eastern United States on Saturday. Reuters reports the heat has sent residents to cooling centers and inflicting on Washington a heat index of 106 degrees F. Even steamier conditions are in the forecast. National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center. About 250 senior citizens returned to their retirement home in Philadelphia on Saturday. A day earlier, a power failure disabled the air conditioners, forcing many of them into a shelter at a high school.
