Nigel Farage says he will stand as a candidate for the anti-immigration Reform UK party at the UK general election next month, after initially ruling out running. "I have changed my mind... I am going to stand," Farage, 60, told a news conference. Farage, a Eurosceptic politician and now a television presenter, campaigned for decades for Britain's withdrawal from the European Union and was a key figure in the 2016 Brexit referendum. Conservative Prime minister Boris Johnson says that his new goverment will "unite and level up the UK" with the "extraordinary majority" his party won in the general election on Thursday, clearing the way for Britain to leave the EU. SOUNDBITE
The leader of Britain's pro-EU Liberal Democrats, Jo Swinson, says early election results and exit polls, which indicate a big win for the ruling Conservative party, will bring "dread and dismay". Swinson, who campaigned on a pledge to revoke Brexit if elected, was beaten into second place by the Scottish National Party (SNP) in her East Dunbartonshire seat in western Scotland. SOUNDBITE

Exit polls and early results suggest the Tories are on course for a historic victory in Thursday's election, in which Johnson won his own seat in Uxbridge, west of London, with an increased majority.
