    According to Reuters, Germany’s foreign minister will meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Monday, as part of a concerted European effort to preserve Iran’s nuclear pact with world powers. European countries maintain that the nuclear pact remains the best way to limit Iran’s enrichment of uranium, a potential pathway to the development of nuclear weapons.

  • Rouhani Says Iran Ready to Expand Gas, Power Trade With Iraq

    According to Reuters, President Hassan Rouhani called on Saturday for Iran and neighboring Iraq to expand their gas and electricity dealings and boost bilateral trade to $20 billion. After a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Rouhani said “The plans to export electricity and gas and hopefully oil continue and we are ready to expand these contacts." Rouhani added that “We hope that our plans to expand trade volume to $20 billion will be realized within the news few months or years."

  • Mohammad Javad Zarif's Resignation Rejected By Rouhani

    According to CNN, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani rejected the foreign minister's surprise resignation. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif abruptly resigned from the post on Feb. 25th. But a day later, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said the presidential office has not accepted the resignation. Iranian law requires the president to accept a resignation before moving forward. Zarif has served at the post since 2013, and was instrumental in negotiations for the Iranian nuclear accord in 2015.

    According to Reuters, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has not accepted the resignation of Mohammed Javad Zarif. Iran's foreign minister abruptly resigned on Feb. 25th, and even posted an announcement on social media. But Iranian law requires the presidential office to accept a resignation to make it official. Iran’s Foreign Ministry reiterated Zarif's resignation has not been accepted by the presidential office.
