800 HP Genovation GXE sets new speed record for street legal all-electric supercar

Description

Back in 2017, Genovation set a new speed record for a street-legal electric vehicle. Then, the electrified C6 Corvette hit 209 miles per hour (336.3 kilometers per hour). It wasn’t until early 2018 when a production version made its debut. While deliveries should commence soon, if they haven’t already, the crew at Genovation cars decided to return to Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing facility for another record-setting speed attempt, and they were successful, hitting 210.2 mph (338.28 kph). Yes, there are faster, petrol-powered cars out there that are setting their own records, but Genovation and electric vehicles march to the beat of their own drum. The description under the video that highlights the electrified Corvette’s record run says the crew had to cancel their first attempt due to rain. However, even while battling massive crosswinds, Genovation was able to set a new record. Though it appears Genovation isn’t done setting records, according to the description’s cryptic conclusion.

  • Renewably-fuelled Bentley Bentayga EWB sets a new trailer-blazing record at Goodwood

Bentley’s renewably-powered showcase at Goodwood Festival of Speed was opened in dramatic fashion this morning, with the announcement of a new, albeit unofficial, hillclimb record – fastest car with a trailer. A Bentayga EWB, Bentley’s newest flagship, completed the hill climb at speed in just 1 minute 21 seconds – impressive enough, but made even more surprising by the fact it was towing 2.5 tonnes of straw in a specially-prepared Ifor Williams trailer. Not only has the run set a new Goodwood record – fastest time for a car and trailer - the unofficial run of 1 minute 21 seconds was completed on second-generation renewable fuel, made from agricultural waste straw. As part of Bentley’s ongoing trails into sustainable fuel, all modern Bentleys running on the hillclimb at the Festival of Speed over the next four days are using renewable fuel, meaning an 85 per cent reduction in carbon emissions on a well-to-wheels basis. For safety reasons, the run was completed ahead of the start of the Festival of Speed, during the build phase of the event, meaning the record time is not official. The 2.5 tonnes of straw hauled to the top of hill is enough to create 1,100 miles-worth of fuel that the Bentayga EWB and indeed all Bentleys can run on without modification. The second-generation biofuel conforms to the global EN228 standard for gasoline, meaning it’s a straightforward replacement for normal pump fuel.

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Sets SUV Speed Record on Ice of Lake Baikal

As the saying goes, records are meant to be broken. That’s exactly what Jeep had in mind when it shipped its Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to southern Siberia in order to attend the annual Speed Days of the Baikal Ice Motor Sports Festival. Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world and at the same time the largest freshwater lake by volume was the perfect venue for the 707-horsepower monster to stretch its legs thanks to a total length of the course of 12 kilometers (7.45 miles). To achieve the record-breaking attempt, Jeep says “unnecessary items were removed” from the vehicle to shave off weight, while the fuel level was just enough to complete the high-speed run. Speaking of speed, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk averaged an impressive speed of 257 kph (160 mph) over 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) with a rolling start and averaged in excess of 100 kph (62 mph) from a standing start.
