In the dramatic final four hours of the Nürburgring 24 Hours the Audi R8 LMS with number 4 of Audi Sport Team Phoenix took over the lead in the Eifel classic
A late rain shower caused a dramatic final phase at the Spa 24 Hours.
After a break of 5 hours and 45 minutes due to heavy rains, the 71st edition of the Spa 24 Hours was restarted behind the safety car at 11:30 am local time. Four hours before the end of the race, Audi had a promising position in the record field of 72 GT sports cars. The best-placed Audi driver was René Rast in the number 1 car from Audi Sport Team WRT in third place. In eighth position was Belgian Frédéric Vervisch with the number 25 entry from Audi Sport Team Saintéloc. The third Audi R8 LMS in the top ten was the number 10 from Belgian Audi Club Team WRT with Rik Breukers behind the wheel.
After numerous caution periods due to heavy rain and aquaplaning hazards at night, race control decided to stop the 2019 Spa 24 Hours with red-flag conditions on Sunday morning at 5:44 am local time. At this point, René Rast in the number 1 Audi R8 LMS from Audi Sport Team WRT was in ninth position, trailed by Frédéric Vervisch in the number 25 car of Audi Sport Team Saintéloc. The number 10 car from Belgian Audi Club Team WRT was 17th and thus the third best Audi.
After 12 of the 24 hours at Spa, Audi Sport Team WRT was the best Audi Sport customer racing team. While rain and safety car periods characterized the race at night, Nico Müller was eighth in the number 1 Audi R8 LMS. He was trailed by Christopher Haase, who was two positions behind in the number 25 car of Audi Sport Team Saintéloc. Five positions further adrift was Jamie Green in the number 129 entry from Montaplast by Land-Motorsport.
