Jammu, Feb 18 (EFE/EPA).- Kashmiris on Tuesday tried to connect their mobile phone to Virtual Private Network (VPNs) to access social media after the government blocked VPNs in Jammu and Kashmir State. According to the news reports, Jammu and Kashmir police registered a case against various people for defying government orders on use of social media under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against social media users who used VPNs to circumvent the internet ban.Virtual Private Networks, or VPNs, allow users to mask their location and browse the internet more securely. The Government of India banned internet connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 when it abrogated Article 370 that accorded a special status to state but restored 2G internet services on January 25, 2020, with an ordered banning all social media sites to curb their misuse by miscreants for propagating false information and rumours in the state.
