A funeral for Archbishop Desmond Tutu begins with a hymn and a procession of clerics down the aisle at a cathedral in Cape Town. The requiem mass started at 10 am (0800 GMT) at the city's St. George's Cathedral where, for years, Tutu used the pulpit to rail against a brutal white minority regime, and that is where he will be buried. Famous for his modesty, Tutu gave instructions for a simple, no-frills ceremony, with a cheap coffin, donations for charity instead of floral tributes and an eco-friendly cremation. IMAGES
Scores of mourners waving Israeli flags hold a procession from the home of slain US-Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin to the Jerusalem cemetery where he was set to be buried. Israeli authorities on Sunday announced the death of the 23-year-old along with that of five other hostages seized during Hamas's unprecedented October 7 attack on southern Israel. They said their bodies were recovered after they were shot at close range on Thursday or Friday, after nearly 11 months in captivity. IMAGES

Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako travel by carriage down The Mall in London to Buckingham Palace, escorted by a guard of honour and accompanied by King Charles and Queen Camilla. This marks the beginning of the couple's three day state visit to the United Kingdom. It is the first state visit to the UK by a Japanese head of state since 1998 and, unusually for such a visit, comes during a general election campaign. IMAGES
