The defence of Europe without Ukraine would be a "futile task", Kyiv's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tells the press as he arrives for a meeting of his North Atlantic Treaty Organization counterparts in Brussels. Speaking after greeting the US-led defence alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Kuleba adds that he believes the Ukrainian armed forces to now be currently "the strongest and the most battle-hardened army in Europe" as its war against Russia's invading forces drags on towards a third year. Kuleba and his NATO counterparts on Wednesday are set to agree on a plan for reforms aimed at helping Ukraine towards eventual membership in the alliance. IMAGES

The European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has announced that all of the bloc's foreign ministers were for the first time meeting beyond its borders, in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. "We are convening a historic meeting of EU Foreign Ministers here in Ukraine, candidate country and future member of the EU. We are here to express our solidarity and support to the Ukrainian people," Borrell said in a statement on social media. IMAGES
Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska, arrives at Downing Street and is greeted by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's wife, Akshata Murthy. Zelenska is in London to attend a "Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative" conference, which the UK government is hosting. Earlier on Monday, Zelenska, whose husband is Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, demanded a global response to the use of sexual violence as a weapon, saying Kyiv prosecutors were investigating more than 100 crimes by Russian soldiers.
