The NY Times reports that President Donald Trump has had more than $280 million in debt forgiven since 2010. According to Business Insider most of it was linked to money he owed lenders for the construction of a massive skyscraper in Chicago. Trump borrowed money for the Trump International Hotel & Tower from Germany's Deutsche Bank and Fortress Investment Group. Trump failed to pay the money bank. The lenders initially gave him more time. According to tax return records and loan documents viewed by the NY Times eventually Deutsche and Fortress forgave the debt.
It is "patently absurd on its face" to claim that Donald Trump incited the deadly riot at the Capitol on January 6 in an attempt to prevent the certification of the presidential election results, says lawyer Michael van der Veen as he addresses Senators at the second impeachment trial of the former US president in Washington. Trump's lawyers concluded their presentation in roughly three hours.
Business Insider reports former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday had sharp words for President Donald Trump's legal team. Christie told Martha Radditz on ABC's 'This Week' that the team's approach to overturning the election results was 'an absurdity.' It's an absurd idea to think that any state, or any number of states, no matter how good they are, can challenge another state's right to run the election as they see fit. Chris Christie Former Governor of the State of New Jersey Friday, the Supreme Court declined to hear the GOP-backed lawsuit brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton due to lack of standing. In addition to Paxton, 17 state attorneys general and 126 Congressional Republicans had signed an amicus brief backing the lawsuit. "The reason the Supreme Court is not taking this is not because of a lack of courage. It's for the same reason that every court has thrown this out. It's a lack of evidence and a lack of any type of legal theory that makes any sense."
Former Trump administration cybersecurity official Chris Krebs is considering taking legal action against Joe diGenova. Krebs drew President Donald Trump's wrath when he defied Trump's claims of voter fraud, saying the 2020 election 'was the most secure in American history.' DiGenova is a Trump campaign lawyer, who Trump recruited after seeing him on Fox News. In an interview on 'The Howie Carr Show' on Monday, diGenova pubicly called Krebs an 'idiot' and a 'class-A moron,' and called for his execution. ...He should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot. Attorney Joe DiGenova Trump campaign legal team member DiGenova walked back his comments on Tuesday, saying, 'It was obvious that my remarks were sarcastic and made in jest.' But Krebs was clearly unamused. I've got an exceptional team of lawyers that win in court and I think they're probably going to be busy. Chris Krebs
Business Insider reports the Trump campaign has purged attorney Sidney Powell from its legal team. Last week, Powell baselessly alleged a global conspiracy to steal the 2020 US presidential election from President Donald Trump. The conspiracy, Powell claimed, involved hacking voting machines and former Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. Chavez, a communist, died in 2013. That dubious claim was then promoted on social media by the Republican Party. On Sunday, the campaign issued a statement asserting that Powell 'is practicing law on her own.' Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.
