The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Design in Racing Yellow

Description

The coupe and convertible set off a fireworks display of technical refinements. The completely redesigned four-liter boxer engine, now 420 hp strong (309 kW; fuel consumption combined 10.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions 249 g/km), adopts important components from the new 911, including its electronics. The selective cylinder control cuts out three of the six combustion chambers during constant cruising, thereby lowering consumption considerably. Particle filters help comply with current emissions standards. The Spyder in particular ups the ante notably with the chassis, which—like the GT4—is based on many lightweight aluminum components from the 911 GT3 and the Cup race car. Newly developed ultra-high-performance tires ensure even greater grip with special rubber mixtures. And the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) driving dynamics systems are precisely adapted to work in lockstep with the new features. And, as in all GT models from Porsche, they can be completely switched off as well. Optional ceramic brakes reduce the unsprung masses per wheel by up to 4.75 kilograms, or almost 50 percent.

  • The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Design in Racing Yellow

The naturally aspirated flat-six engine, familiar from the 911 GT3 Cup racing car and the 911 GT3 series production model, forms the centrepiece of a sports car that has been designed for maximum driving pleasure. The engine revs as high as 9,000 rpm. Compared to the 718 Cayman GT4, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS has an extra 80 PS, resulting in a weight-to-power ratio of 2.83 kg/PS. Maximum torque has been increased from 430 to 450 Nm.Among the striking features of the new, top-of-the-range 718 are the process air intakes behind the driver and passenger windows. The 718 Cayman normally has small side windows here. The new air intakes improve both the intake airflow and, at the same time, create a thrilling intake noise right next to the occupants' ears. The characteristic air intakes in front of the rear wheels have been retained and are used for engine cooling.

  • The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 in Racing Yellow Driving Video

Three years after the premiere of the first Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Porsche now unveils its successor: The new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport represents a consequent further development of the successful model from Weissach. For the first time, the near-standard mid-engine racer comes in two versions ex-works: the “Trackday” model for ambitious amateur racing drivers and the “Competition” variant for national and international motor racing. In developing the new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the focus was put not only on further improved driveability and faster lap times but also on the sustainable use of raw materials. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first ever production race car to feature body parts made of natural-fibre composite material. The driver and co-driver doors and the rear wing are made of an organic fibre mix, which are sourced primarily from agricultural by-products such as flax or hemp fibres and feature similar properties to carbon fibre in terms of weight and stiffness.Powering the 718 GT4 Clubsport is a 3.8-litre flat-six engine producing 313 kW (425 hp). Compared to its predecessor, this represents a 40-hp increase in performance. The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a Porsche dual-clutch gearbox with six gears and mechanical rear axle differential lock. The lightweight spring-strut front suspension is taken from its big 911 GT3 Cup brother. The impressive racing brake system features steel brake discs all round measuring 380 millimetres in diameter. Tipping the scales at 1,320 kilograms, the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, delivered ex-works with a welded-in safety cage, a racing bucket seat as well as a six-point harness, is a real lightweight.

  • Porsche 718 Cayman T Design in Racing Yellow

With the 718 T, Porsche has transferred the puristic design of the 1968 911 T to its range of two-seater sports cars. The new model in the Boxster and Cayman ranges combines the 220 kW (300 PS) turbo four-cylinder flat engine with a particularly emotional Porsche driving experience. The high-performance character of the T models is emphasised by an extensive equipment package, which includes 20-inch alloy wheels, the PASM sports chassis lowered by 20 millimetres - which is being offered in combination with the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine for the first time in this range - the shortened gearshift, on which the gears are emblazoned in red, and the Sport Chrono package. These features can only be enjoyed in combination with the basic engine in the 718 T. Porsche is offering both the Boxster and Cayman variants with six-speed gearbox and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), including mechanical rear axle differential locking. Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) is also available as an option.Traditionally, "T" stands for "Touring" in Porsche models, and is synonymous with driving pleasure in its purest form. The 718 T will be most at home on winding country roads, offering the joy of dynamic driving as its ultimate goal. The two-seater accommodates this philosophy through a pared down range of features. These include black door pulls in the door panels and sports seats with electric two-way adjustment, black Sport-Tex centre sections and the "718" logo embroidered on the headrests.
