  • Pentagon Ups National Guards Numbers To 25,000--And They'll Be Armed

The Pentagon has upped the number of National Guard members it wants present at President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration by 4,000. CNN reports the Pentagon on Friday authorized up to 25,000 National Guard members, marking an increase from the 21,000 troops authorized a day earlier. The US begins a new political chapter tomorrow with the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States. Washington DC has been on high alert ever since pro-Trump supporters rioters stormed the Capitol building on January 6th, with threats of more disruption and violence following that security breach. The country has tightened its security presence even in state capitals, ahead of the scaled-down ceremony, as FRANCE 24’s Catherine Norris Trent reports from Washington.
