President Joe Biden says that his efforts to create US jobs were not intended to be at Europe's expense after complaints by French President Emmanuel Macron over state support to green industry. "My point is -- we're back in business, Europe is back in business. And we're going to continue to create manufacturing jobs in America, but not at the expense of Europe," Biden told a joint news conference with Macron. SOUNDBITE
Speaking at a press conference alongside the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, reveals a new round of sanctions against Moscow over its latest "escalation" in Ukraine. The new sanctions include a cap on the price of Russian oil and a ban on exports from the country worth seven billion euros ($7 billion). The announcement comes as the Kremlin-installed leaders of Russian-held regions in Ukraine have been claiming victory in what Von der Leyen describes as "sham" referendums on joining the Russian Federation. At a bilateral meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, United States President Joe Biden announces that the US is to enhance its "force posture" in Europe, consisting of US military air, sea, land reinforcements on the continent in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. SOUNDBITE
US President Joe Biden says he hopes Congress will vote on his "Build Back Better" infrastructure plan as soon as this week.
