Trade unions, business associations urge Draghi new employment policies

Rome (Italy), Feb 10 (EFE), (Camera: Álvaro Padilla).- Unions and employers in Italy urged the former president of the European Central Bank (ECB) Mario Draghi to promote active employment policies and social protection mechanisms amid the pandemic. FOOTAGE OF TRADE UNIONS REPRESENTATIVES AFTER THE MEETING WITH MARIO DRAGHI.SOUNDBITES OF:-PIERPAOLO BOMBARDIERI, SECRETARY GENERAL OF UIL: "We have underlined the emergencies, the issue of social inequalities in the country, that whoever has a job runs the risk of losing it and that there are people who do not have one, the inequalities between the north and south, between young and old people who are unemployed, and we have asked for policies that promote development and investment, we have expressed our views."-MAURIZIO LANDINI, GENERAL SECRETARY OF CGIL: "We have raised the need to extend the ban on layoffs for the time necessary to get out of the emergency (situation) and also to allow a reform of the social protection mechanisms." -ANNAMARIA FURLAN, GENERAL SECRETARY OF CISL: "We have shown that it is essential to support companies but also to maintain the ban on layoffs and the extension of employment regulation files." "It does not have to be 'sine die', it does not have to be an infinite period. It will be enough with a few more months if we know how to work on a reform of social protection mechanisms —because we have many workers without coverage— and on favouring active employment policies."
