Viradouro samba school is crowned the champion of the 2020 Rio Carnival after a performance that paid tribute to the black women of Brazil, a country marked by slavery. This is a second title for 'Unidos de Viradouro' samba school, the previous one dating back to 1997. IMAGES

Sao Paulo, Feb 21 (EFE).- Sao Paulo was filled Friday with joyous celebration, colorful sights and pulsating samba rhythms at the start of its world-famous Carnival. The elite samba schools of Sao Paulo began parading Friday night and continued into Saturday, while a kind of "second division" was doing the same in Rio de Janeiro.
