Mexico out front in pressuring UN to guarantee anti-Covid vaccine access

Mexico City, Feb 18 (EFE).- Mexico has positioned itself as one of the countries exerting the most pressure on the United Nations to guarantee universal access to anti-Covid-19 vaccines, denouncing vaccine hoarding and/or monopolization by the richest nations and creating links with other Latin American nations like Argentina.(CAMERA: Cristina Sánchez)JUAN RAMON DE LA FUENTE, REPRESENTATIVE OF MEXICO TO THE UN."What Foreign Minister Ebrad said to the security council on behalf of Mexico, with the support of the community of Latin America and the Caribbean, was that the COVAX mechanism was insufficient.According to UN data, of the first 130 million vaccines administered three quarters were used in only 10 countries. The need to review and accelerate the mechanisms was discussed, those countries are entitled to advance in their vaccination program but other countries should be advance as well because if not, the strategy will not work."
