  • Miami increases penalties for businesses breaking COVID-19 rules

FOOTAGE SHOWS A PRESS CONFERENCE BY MIAMI MAYOR FRANCIS SUAREZ AT MIAMI CITY HALL IN MIAMI, FLORIDA, US.SOUNDBITES: MIAMI MAYOR FRANCIS SUAREZ (IN SPANISH).TRANSLATIOSN: Last week, we enforced a rule of wearing face masks in public places. Now we are applying a new rule for businesses that violate our order. They will be closed for 10 days for the first violation, 15 days for the second and 30 days for the third. We don't want to close business. We just want to focus only on businesses that are not following the rules and increase the penalty so that they understand the seriousness of the decision we have to make and the fact that we are trying to protect the health of our residents. I know that under certain circumstances it is uncomfortable to put on the face masks in public places. I understand that there is a lot of frustration about this rule but it is different than having to put on your seatbelt when driving. So, we ask our residents to please (follow the rule) as all studies that we have read indicate that this is the best way to reduce the spread of the virus.
