Mandalay, Mar 11 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar’s military junta has accused Aung San Suu Kyi of taking illegal bribes in cash and gold in what was the latest charges leveled against the democratically-elected leader since she was overthrown on Feb. 1.Brig. Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the junta, told a press conference that Suu Kyi had accepted some $600,000 in illegal payments, according to local channel DVB.Suu Kyi has remained in detention for five weeks and faces a number of accusations from the military junta. Mandalay, Apr 15 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar security forces opened fire Thursday at a demonstration of medical personnel in Mandalay and detained about 20 people in a new day of protests against the military junta that seized power during the Feb. 1 coup, the local press reported. According to data from the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners, at least 714 people have died due to the military repression, while more than 3,000 people have been detained, including the leader of the deposed government Aung San Suu Kyi.The Myanmar Army justifies the coup on alleged electoral fraud in November’s elections, in which Suu Kyi's party won a landslide victory, as it did in 2015, with the endorsement of international observers. Mandalay/Yangon, Mar 18 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar's military has added new corruption charges against the country's ousted civilian leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, for allegedly receiving bribes from a builder.In a video aired on military-owned Myawaddy TV Wednesday night, the owner of a construction company claimed he gave $550,000 to Suu Kyi in four installments between 2018 and 2020. So far, Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has won two thirds of the seats in Myanmar's lower house of the parliament in the country's historic elections. But even with a victory Myanmar laws do not allow Suu Kyi to become president.
Myanmar, Jul 27 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar military rulers have formally annulled the Nov.8 election results, claiming widespread irregularities by the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) of Aung San Suu Kyi, state media reported Tuesday.The military claimed that a probe found 11.3 million fraud cases in the elections swept by the NLD.
