Myanmar junta removes Rakhine rebels from list of terrorist groups

Description

Rakhine, Mar 11 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar's military junta announced that it has removed the Arakan Army (AA) from its list of terrorist groups as it has ceased its terrorist activities and the measure aims to find a peaceful solution, state media reported on Thursday. The AA, has been fighting for greater autonomy for the western state of Rakhine and was put on the list last year. For the past few years it has maintained one of the main armed conflicts in the country, causing hundreds of civilian fatalities and the displacement of around 200,000.The AA has neither condemned the military coup, as dozens of other ethnic armed groups have, nor has it shown its support for the anti-junta protests.
