Dozens protest U.S. and South Korea's Special Measures Agreement in Seoul

Seoul, Mar 16 (EFE/EPA).- Dozens of demonstrators on Tuesday took part in a protest against the Special Measures Agreement (SMA), a Defense Cost Sharing agreement between South Korea and the US, near the US Embassy in Seoul. According to the South Korean Foreign Ministry on 11 March, the country agreed to boost funding for US troops on Korean soil by 13.9 percent. (Camera: JEON HEON-KYUN).     Seoul, Apr 19 (EFE/EPA).- Dozens of South Korean activists gathered in Seoul again on Monday to protest against the release of radioactive water into the ocean from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. Last week, Japan formalized its to decision to release over 1 million tonnes of contaminated water stored in the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean, after treating it to remove most radioactive elements. The contentious measure is aimed at solving the accumulation of radioactive water at the Daiichi nuclear facilities, one of the most pressing problems in the complex process of dismantling the plant that was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
