Naypyidaw, Apr 26 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar’s military junta continues to deny deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi a meeting with her lawyers, her legal representatives said Monday after a court hearing in which she appeared online.Suu Kyi, under house arrest since the Feb. 1 coup, faces several trials on charges such as importing electronic devices or revealing official secrets without being able to meet with her team of lawyers, despite having requested it on several occasions.One of her legal representatives, Khin Maung Zaw, told EFE that during the Monday hearing in Naypyitaw the judge asked a policeman if he had told his superiors about the request for Suu Kyi and deposed President Win Myint to meet with their defense teams. Yangon, Dec 9 (EFE/EPA).- While many international observers have condemned the decision by Aung San Suu Kyi to defend her government against charges of genocide relating to the military campaign against the Rohingya ethnic minority, a majority of Myanmar's citizens have applauded their de facto leader.Aung San Suu Kyi will head a delegation traveling to The Hague to deny charges of genocide against the Burmese army over its brutal offensive against the Rohingya in a case brought by The Gambia before the International Court of Justice. Over 740,000 members of the mostly-Muslim minority fled to Bangladesh after the last large-scale military campaign launched in August 2017."There was all kinds of international pressure over the Rohingya crisis, and we couldn't do anything to help her. The United States condemns Myanmar's junta for dissolving the party of deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi and warns that the move would bring more instability. "We strongly condemn the Burma military regime's decision to abolish 40 political parties, including the National League for Democracy," State Department Spokesman Vedant Patel says, using Myanmar's former name. "Any election without the participation of all stakeholders in Burma would not be and cannot be considered free or fair and, given the widespread opposition to military rule, the regime's unilateral push towards elections likely will escalate instability," he adds.
