Iranian personnel have been on the ground in Russian-occupied Crimea helping Moscow's forces conduct attacks on Ukraine with Iran-made drones, the US State Department says. The Pokemon Go sensation arrived at the US State Department in Washington DC, on Thursday, when a journalist was told off for playing the popular game during the daily briefing from spokesperson John Kirby. During his update on the ongoing efforts to defeat the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Kirby noticed a journalist using his phone, saying: "you're playing the Pokemon thing right there, aren't you," a query which was subsequently confirmed by the reporter.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has asked China's foreign minister and other counterparts to use their influence to dissuade Iran from striking Israel, the State Department says. Blinken spoke by telephone to his Chinese, Turkish, Saudi and European counterparts "to make clear that escalation is not in anyone's interest and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters.
