In Peru's mountains, pre-Hispanic engineering helps gather water

Description

In the mountains of the Peru's Lima province, a small network of man-made stone canals furrows the hillsides to collect water from the rivers and irrigate the land through underground aquifers, even during times of drought. This engineering system of pre-Hispanic origin is known as "amunas", a Quechua root word meaning "to retain water".
